What usually happens

Do your kids know what happens to the house?

Most people we sit with have been meaning to do this for years. Nothing is wrong. There has just never been a good week for it.

Here's the part worth knowing. In Florida, if you leave no plan, the decision about your home, your accounts and your belongings goes to a courtroom instead of your family. A judge follows the statute. Not your intentions.

Then there is the smaller, more common problem. Your children do not know where the deed is. Or which bank. Or who to call. That alone can add months.

Everything you get

The Family Roadmap Session — six things, one sitting

45 minutes with a Siegel attorney, at any of our three offices or by video. Here is exactly what you walk out with — whether or not you ever become a client.

  1. 1Your Family RoadmapIncludedA written picture of what happens to your home, accounts and belongings today, exactly as things stand right now.
  2. 2Your Probate ExposureIncludedWhat your family would actually go through in Florida probate — the court process for passing things on — if something happened this week. How long, and roughly what it costs them.
  3. 3Will or trust — a straight answerIncludedA recommendation for your situation, in plain English. Not a brochure.
  4. 4A flat-fee quote in writingIncludedNo hourly surprises. You'll know the number before you decide anything.
  5. 5The Estate Planning Roadmap workbookIncludedOur organizing workbook for assets, contacts and wishes, so your family isn't guessing.
  6. 6A direct line afterwardIncludedYou'll know which attorney is yours and how to reach them.
  7. Your cost for the session$0

Our promise to you

If we sit down and it turns out you don't need anything from us, we'll tell you straight — and you still keep your roadmap and workbook. No pitch. No pressure. No bill.

Why we cap it

We take a limited number of new families each week, because every one of them gets real attention. When the week is full, it's full — the next opening is the following week.

Meet the family

A family firm, helping other families.

Stephen started this firm in 1982. His son Jason sits in the same chairs today. Some of the families we work with are on their third generation with us — the parents came in, then the kids, then the grandkids.

Stephen S. Siegel

Founder — the firm since 1982

Stephen opened the doors in 1982 and has been sitting with Treasure Coast families ever since. He is the reason this firm explains things with stories instead of statutes.

Jason Siegel

Attorney — 19+ years

Jason earned his law degree with honors from the University of Florida, along with a B.B.A. and an M.B.A. — a triple Gator, and he will tell you about it. He lives in Port St. Lucie with his wife Ana and their two kids, Harper and Benjamin.

Jennifer C. Rogers

Attorney

Jennifer handles the details that keep a plan from falling apart later. Clients tend to describe her as the person who finally made it all make sense.

Photo slots reserved for the firm's real photographs of Stephen, Jason and Jennifer.

Estate planning

What we put in place, and what each piece does

Wills
Says who gets what, and who is in charge of carrying it out.
Trusts
A private way to pass things on — often without a court case.
Durable power of attorney
Lets someone you pick handle money matters if you can't.
Health care power of attorney
Names the person who can speak to doctors for you.
Living wills
Puts your own wishes about end-of-life care in writing.
Beneficiary designations
The forms on accounts that quietly override everything else.
Business entity formation
Sets up the company so the business is not tangled with your home.
Asset protection
Arranges what you own so it is harder for others to reach.

Probate administration

The four paths, and when each one applies

Summary administration
For smaller estates, or when the death was more than two years ago.
Formal administration
The usual court path when there are debts, property or disputes.
Ancillary administration
When someone who lived out of state owned Florida property.
Trust administration
When there is a trust, and someone has to actually carry it out.

You do not need to know which one you're in. That's our first job when we talk.
